Characters

Work In Progress. This will take some time as I'm re-reading the book at the same time, not to miss anything. I will work last on The Brothers and The Sisters. First are the Cahill sisters, their parents and then it is in alphabetical order. Everything is coming out of the book.
Read the book first as there are spoilers ahead if you haven't read it!

Catherine Cahill : Know as Cate
Birthday : March 14th.
Straight and blond hair with the barest hint of red, dull gray eyes, pointed chin.
Stubborn. Almost 17. Capable of mind-magic. Her magic manifested at 11.
She promised her mother she would take care of her sisters.
Her favorite spot is a bench in the rose garden beneath the statue of Athena.
Cate was thirteen when her mother died.

Maura Cahill : Sapphire eyes, flame bright hair and temparement to match.
Impetuous, intractable and easily infuriated. She is 15. Her magic manifested at 12.
Loves books (banned books) and she is a horrid loser.

Teresa Elizabeth Cahill : Known as Tess.
Blond curly hair, gray eyes, small for her age, thin shoulder.
She is 12 and doesn't need to speak out loud to cast a spell.
Tess is a better witch than Cate at her age and like to cook.
She is fluent in French, Latin and Greek and a champion at chess and draughts.

Mother : Named Anna. She was a witch. She died. She lost five babies.

Father : Businessman, rarely at home, thin face, dull gray eyes.
The only time he spends with his daughter is for their lessons of French pronunciation and Latin translation.
He doesn't know about magic and used to be handsome.

Clara Belastra : She is 12, tall and gangly with enormous hands and feet.

Finn Belastra : Has glasses and freckles scattered like cinnamon all over his cheeks. Thick coppery hair. His forearms are all lean, wiry muscle. Cate says "He's gotten awfully handsome". Always with a book and the house's new gardener. His father died. Very bright young man. He has a gap between his two front teeth, Cate finds that it makes his smile "a bit rakish and all the more charming".

Marianne Belastra : Finn and Clara's mother. She is the owner of the bookshop in town. The Brothers are scaring her customers away, hoping to find something forbidden and shut them down. She's s thin woman with gray twining through her rust-colored hair. She has freckles like Finn.

Lily Belfiore : Lady's maid. Great meek brown eyes.

Mrs Corbett : Hazel eyes. Cate compares her to a "fat spider" and "fat crow" at some point. She has a daughter called Regina (described as a simpering ninny married to a religious, riche and of good standing) and is the girls's neighbors. Mrs Corbett is the one to suggest a governess to the sisters's father. She is a witch and a member of the Sisterhood.

Marguerite Dolamore : Arrested by the Brothers. Disapeared in the middle of the night before her trial. Nobody knows what happened to her.

Brenna Elliott : A girl from town, Cate's age. Everybody was forgiving her eccentricity (talking to herself for example) because she was Father Elliott's granddaughter. But one day, she warned her uncle Jack of his death, the day before he died (carriage accident). Her father turned her in. She was accused of witchery, sent to Harwood and slit her wrists. Her grandfather insisted she was ill and not a witch and brought her back in town where she barely leaves the house.

:Rory Elliott :  Long black hair. Betrothed to Nils Winfield (son of Brother Winfield). Rory's mother never leaves her house and is said to be a drunk. The husband of Rory's mother, Jack Elliott (who died in a carriage accident) gave his name to Rory but he is not her biological father. Sachika Ishida is her best friend.

Gwen Foucart : Arrested by the Brothers. Sentenced to labor on the prison ship off the coast of New London.

Sachika Ishida : Known as Sachi. She is 16.
